#83 Are you good with observations?
Saturday, September 24, 2022
When you look into a mirror, you almost every time see two different versions of yourself - the one who sees and the other who is seen. It may sound gibberish at once, but trust me, both these versions of you are equally important. You should be a good observer of things around you to survive and thrive and you must also observe yourself and be observed by others to have a concept of self concept and self image. Without observing, you would get hit by a car or starve. Without being observed, you would have no memory, history, or sense of why you do what you do.
If there’s something that I am proud of about myself, it is that I am a good listener and hence a good observer. A good observer of people and everything in general happening around. Observation skill gives you real time feedback and acts as a quick instrument for learning. And most importantly, my favourite, it helps you adapt faster. How? Imagine you have just relocated to a new country for education purposes. Your observations about the people, their lifestyles, and mannerisms will help you adapt to the country quicker than if you had not been observant. Through the power of observation, you know what is the accepted norm in the country and what is not accepted to do in the country. It is important to know these small things so that you adjust to the new country faster. Remember, what is accepted in your own country back home may not particularly be accepted in the new country.
Can someone be a bad listener and a good observer? or vice versa? What do you think?
Last week I posted a picture of myself on Instagram.
Well the main motive was to let people know about my blog because I have not really promoted my blog until now. Not even with friends or relatives. If you are following from the starting or maybe hopped on somewhere in between, you know it well and I appreciate you reading it. Guess how many followers I gained? Not one, not two, not three… ZERO!
Now that I think of this event, I consider myself a fool. How can I expect people to show deferred gratification in a world(instagram) which only offers instant gratification. Why would I do that?
One good thing about writing every week is that I consider every event as a life lesson. At this point, my thinking is molded in such a way that no matter what the topic of conversation is, I somehow extract a life lesson from it. It sometimes baffles me how learning can come in a variety of ways, you just have to be open to it.
