What is up with people who love to go to concerts? I have nothing against the artists, but I honestly think that concerts are over hyped. Well this maybe because I don’t differentiate between noise and sound. Science says noise is unwanted sound. I say noise is a glorified version of sound. Most of the sound around us is nothing but noise. Don’t you get annoyed by the sound of a running water tap or the sound of an air conditioner on a hot summer day?
Yesterday I met a guy who introduced himself as Ethan Chan Christian. I was chilling and doing my work when Ethan came to me and asked me a very simple Yes/No question - “Do you believe in God?”. His question took me by surprise, not because it is a difficult question to answer but because the timing and the moment was odd. You don’t randomly ask a stranger if they believe in God or not. Or do you? Anyways, after talking to him I found out that he was on a mission to teach people about The Bible in 5 minutes and was trying to understand what other people think of God.
The reason I am mentioning my encounter with Ethan is because of the way he taught me about the essence of Bible. Doesn’t matter if you believe in God or not, doesn’t really matter what religion you follow, what really matters is the underlying concept of living in harmony according to the rules of nature. What I loved about Ethan’s concept is that he taught me something valuable and at the same time got my perspective on things. And what all it costed? A mere 5 minutes.
Everyday I think about this graph twice, once while going to college in the morning and second time while walking back to home in the evening. Not that I spend too much effort on it, but the curious side of me always used to get annoyed on seeing the graph on the pavement daily and that I am still unable to decode its meaning. Last week it finally struck me, maybe I am wrong or maybe I am right. I don’t know. What I know is that I have an explanation to satisfy my mind. Before I tell you my version of the graph, what do you think it means?
There’s no machine yet which can measure the power of our thoughts, but it is important to be aware of our thoughts and how you express them. Isn’t this what mindfulness is about? Becoming aware of the present moment and noticing the sights, smells, sounds and tastes that you experience, as well as the thoughts, feelings and sensations that occur from one moment to the next. It is so easy to rush through the moments of your life and get into depression. Becoming more aware of the present moment can help us enjoy the world around us more, and understand ourselves better.
At this point I am considering to include a beach section in my blog where I will write just about the beach. I mean It’s not my fault that the beach is so vast and the learnings are endless. You know what? It’s hard to find whole shells on the beach! Most of them are at least split in half and many are merely fragments of what they once were. The churning waves of the ocean crush sea shells every time they hit the shore. In fact, the very sand we walk on at the beach is mostly made up of tiny bits of shells thrown out by the waves. Yet they look so beautiful and people wear them as ornaments. Beauty can be found in brokenness, only if you have the eyes for it.
