Last week, while driving to Malibu, the car was often reminding me to be in my lane as it was a high speed zone. That’s the thing about technology, right! Even if your steering turns by say 1 degree, the computer will remind you to come back to your lane. Today, I wonder, what if humans had a similar system installed in their brain? Maybe a computer chip that would remind the person to stop peeking into another person’s life and concentrate solely on theirs.
People think they are right, and they like to impose their perspectives on you. How shamelessly people feel like they should take the responsibility in dictating how everything works. Even at times you’re not present, you can be sure they are retching their theories behind your back. The problem with society is that we want to dictate the terms of our existence for others. How others should behave, make friends, even live a life - people want to dictate everything. The worst part is, there’s no legitimate argument.
When we mind our own business, we save a lot of energy because we are focused on what we want instead of what we don’t want. It is like sorting the mail (although most of our terrible even at that).
Think about how much energy it takes to go through every piece of junk mail, all the special offers, all the fine print, and all the sales flyers. It would take all day! Instead, most of us just take a quick glance at the mail each day to see what actually needs our attention, and we recycle or throw out the rest.
Realized souls will avoid contact with negativity not out of fear, but out of desire to keep away from impurity, though they are strong enough to destroy impurity. You need not react to every opinion, every comment, or every situation. Kick the drama and keep going ahead. Choose your battles wisely. Not everything deserves your time and attention.
What do you think of friendships? What is your idea of a friendship?
I read a very powerful idea of friendship, and I think I believe in that. It goes like, The idea of friendship is to sit with someone and talk for hours, passionately, jarringly, and most importantly, interestedly. Friendships are made from mutual respect and understanding of each other's well-being. There is also a social media definition of a friend, in which the two of you have your accounts linked together on social media, and the goal is to show the world how strong your bond is.
As my dear friend says and I quote, “We live in a world where people accumulate good things not for happiness, but for show offs!”
Last Saturday I visited Stanford (also the reason I missed out on the blog). Recall any scene from an Indian movie where the protagonist is a student in college. I saw an exact same scene happening inside the campus of Stanford. An Indian dude came and kept some fruits near the feet of one of the disciples of Aristotle, closed his eyes, wished something and left. I am not kidding. When did we start treating philosophers as God? You’ve got to tell me guys!!!
I found a different God, sorry philosopher to get clicked with.
All dogs are amazing, but some dogs are meant to be remembered forever. Here, meet one such dog - taking part in Diwali Pooja.
See you next Saturday, have a great weekend:)
Cheers!
