Don’t forget your roots my friend, yeah
Don’t forget your family, yeah
The ones who made you,
The ones who brought you here.
The lyrics are from this beautiful song I stumbled upon last Wednesday and this is one of those rare songs that hits you differently on different days. You know what I mean, right? Life isn’t stagnant. It won’t always go up or always go down the hill. However, our roots are a permanent part of our entire journey so far. Roots are the foundation of our existence, or rather the primary reason of our existence. As we move on with life, we encounter people having a completely different culture, though it widens our perspective to look at things, the key is to not be influenced by everything new that looks exciting at first glance and rather stick to our roots. There are two things that we pass on to a new generation - we give them the roots and the wings to fly.
It was Ganesh Chaturthi last Wednesday, one of the biggest Hindu festival in India commemorating the birth of Lord Ganesha. It’s one of the biggest festivals in Maharashtra celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm. Having a housemate from Mumbai exposed us to the flavors of the festival. Dropping a few pictures from our small yet fulfilling celebrations here.
With the passage of time we stop being the person we were and start becoming a person we never thought we could be. From being someone who hated eggplant all their life to cooking eggplant fries for lunch, from never missing the highly intense India-Pakistan cricket match (not even the toss) to not even watching the match highlights, from no opinion to somewhat being a beach person (almost), from avoiding strangers to “networking” with them, and so on. We evolve faster than we think. Our opinions and beliefs change quite frequently, which in my opinion is a good thing. As Tony Robbins says - “If you cannot change your beliefs, you cannot change anything.”
“Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us how things are, what’s possible and impossible and what we can and can not do. They shape every action, every thought and every feeling that we experience. As a result, changing our belief systems is central to making any real and lasting change in our lives.”
I have a suggestion. The next time you say so and so place is extremely beautiful, please specify the time of the day when you found it enthralling. For example, when I say LA is beautiful, what I implicitly apply by this phrase is that the morning and the evening LA is serene. Try going out on the streets at noon! Uggh, Good luck with that. If we are appreciating the art of nature, let’s be a bit more specific. Be very clear.
Yay, it’s beach time! Are you going crazy and want some peace for your mind to relax? Go to the beach. Do you realize that you are brimming with overconfidence and need to land your foot on the ground? Go to the damn BEACH! Remember about my obsession with aviation? Well seems like I have a new obsession - BEACH. Okay I admit it’s an old obsession coming to the surface today. If you haven’t read my previous "‘Gyaan” on beaches and life lessons, are you even alive? Just kidding, go check it out here.
That’s all from my side. I appreciate you reading it.
See you next Saturday, until then have a productive week.
Cheers :)
