If you spend a lot of time in your bedroom or your kitchen or your dining room, does that mean you are more in sync with that place compared to anywhere else? Does it satisfy your definition of home? Home is the exact opposite of loneliness. If you have someone to share this experience with - good for you. If not, great for you. Let me take you to a room. Yes, follow me. Here we are, you and me, alone, not lonely, in a room. However, when I leave, what is remaining? You and the room right? It is easier to feel lonely in an empty room. But you feel extra lonely in a room where you didn’t feel lonely before.
Anyways, I live in a house which has four rooms. I’m sorry. Last week we got to know it has 5 rooms. I’m sorry again! A couple of days ago when a Philippines guy moved in, we realized the existence of one more room. Ooops! One more? NO. TWO MORE ROOMS. I know what you are thinking. This isn’t a normal house. This is a house which somehow seems to have infinite number of rooms. A new door unfolds right in front of our eyes when somebody moves in. What’s so special about our place? What makes it a BIG BOSS house?
It’s not the quantity but the quality of people that makes this house such a fun place to be. By quality, I mean the countries and the places from where we all are coming. And when people from different countries come together, share the same kitchen and eat at the same table, the fun escalates exponentially and turns into entertainment. I mean you can understand the level of discussions we have every night when we have to explain ‘the whys’ and ‘the hows’ behind the whistle that comes out of a pressure cooker while cooking dal on medium flame to our American roommate.
What’s interesting is that the place is less about diversity and more about inclusivity. It is important to establish a sense of belonging for everybody. It’s not a one size fits all approach. We have to be open to learning and accepting new things. What starts from diversity should only end at inclusivity otherwise diversity doesn’t make any sense. I can’t force this enough - diversity and inclusivity goes hand in hand. Diversity doesn’t exist without inclusivity.
See you next weekend, until then have a great weekend :)
Cheers!
