Having spent nearly 10 months in the United States, I have come to realize one striking disparity between India and the Western world: the profound appreciation for the value of time. Here in the West, individuals are compensated based on hourly rates, a concept that is virtually nonexistent in India. This distinction sheds light on a deeper cultural understanding of time's significance. Kunal Shah, in his compelling podcast discussion with Shane Parrish, articulates an intriguing observation about human behavior: people are willing to invest an entire hour deleting unnecessary pictures from their cloud storage, yet they hesitate to purchase inexpensive additional storage that would require just a minute or so. This disparity arises from a fundamental failure to comprehend the true worth of time.
In Indian society, time is often treated as an infinite resource, a notion that manifests in various facets of life. Meetings and appointments frequently commence later than scheduled, with the expectation that delays are an accepted norm.
